Late summer in Lazarevskoye — when to go and why it’s the best time
Late summer (the «velvet season») in Lazarevskoye stretches from the end of August almost to November, when the Black Sea coast turns into the cosiest spot in southern Russia. The water is still as warm as fresh milk, the crowds have left, prices have come down and you can finally enjoy the sea without elbowing for a sun lounger.
When the velvet season starts
Locals usually count the velvet season from the last week of August. The peak hot weather is over, kids are heading back to school, but the sea remembers its summer warmth and holds 24–26 °C through all of September. By mid-October the water cools to a still-bearable 20–22 °C; from November on it becomes a «look-at-it-from-the-shore» sea.
Why it’s actually the best time to come
Three reasons people fall in love with this part of the year:
- Warm sea, no heat exhaustion. Daytime air sits at 25–28 °C, nights are 18–20 °C — perfect for sleeping with the window open.
- Empty beaches. No fight for a spot, no queues at the lifts, free tables at every café.
- Lower prices. Rooms get 20–40% cheaper than in July, transfers and excursions also drop in price.
What to do in Lazarevskoye in September–October
Plenty: the sea, the Aquatoria water park (open until late September), Berendeyevo Tsarstvo waterfalls, the Tea Houses, Krasnaya Polyana day trips, tea tastings, Caucasus hikes, evening promenade walks. Tea-house tours are at their best in autumn — the new harvest is in.
What to pack
A light jacket or hoodie for the evenings, swimwear, beach shoes (the beach is pebbly), sunscreen — the sun still bites until mid-October. By the end of October bring a folding umbrella.
Where to stay
Direct booking at the Valeo guest house is the easiest way: no agency commission, fixed price, the host stays in touch from booking to check-out. Compact rooms with their own bathroom, air-con, Wi-Fi and a quiet inner yard — 180 m from the beach.
